United Airlines caters to passenger flights in a system that oversees 200,000 aircraft tools utilized for the maintenance and overhaul of more than 700 aircrafts across 45 different stations around the globe. In order to ease how the tools are synchronized within the toolroom’s Calibration, tool Check-In & Check-Out, Inventory, and tool Shipping & Receiving, our team has standardized the operating system currently taking place for these four main processes. Discrepancies within each process provide room for improvement. The improvements will benefit the flow of tools within the home location as well as among domestic outposts. As O’Hare currently has an effective system in place for the tool room practices, reducing cost, optimizing procedures, and improving efficiency within this location through standardization of best methods will enable overall success. After the analysis and documentation of the current working processes, the improvement opportunities were captured through decision making diagrams, data analytics and statistical analysis. As a result, the improvement opportunities along with their standardization will bridge the gap between the tool room operations not only for O’Hare, but rather, how corporate oversees multiple tooling hubs across the country.
