As the number of bicycle commuters grow in the city, bicycle storage will become more limited and the price to store commuter bikes will continue to rise. Currently, Chicago is home to over 303 miles of bike lanes within the city. Members of this group rely primarily on commuting via bicycle to work and school and know first hand the struggles of finding not only reliable but affordable means of storage for our bicycles in the city. We sought to find alternative means of transportation to eliminate this problem of storage constraints in our daily commute which led us to building this pair of electric roller skates. From this need of transportation alternatives and pre-existing transportation infrastructure mentioned earlier, we seek to provide a more space-friendly means of transportation to consumers in order to alleviate the growing constraint on storage facilities within the city. A design that can compete with companies such as Segway was developed. We have made calculations and chosen parts to correspond to our design, however currently we are in the process of assembling our prototype.
