Package and postage theft are not issues that are unheard of to online shoppers and mail recipients. According to press data sheet on delivery statistics for 2017, 11 million homeowners have had their packages stolen and 74% of those packages were stolen during the day when the client was away. Our goal is to remove worry and stress from this demographic by securing the user’s packages while they are away from home. Amazon does this well by providing locker sites around the city including University of Illinois at Chicago, this service allows customers to send and conveniently pickup their packages to any secure locker location. We wish to bring this level of security to the customer’s property by designing a low-cost and secure solution. Team Well-Salted Systems’ solution to this problem is The Box, a deposit-box like device that is placed near your home to secure mail and packages. We will be displaying a scaled-down version of the original design due to time and budget constraints, this version would be able to hold a maximum volume of 12x9x9 inches. The design will allow the user’s mail/package courier to access the Box by using a company issued keycard which will be read by a RFID scanner. Clients can open the safety box either through an installed keypad or a mobile application on an android phone, they also have the ability to choose who has access by either sharing their own password or creating unique or temporary passwords. Our goal is to fulfill our user’s security needs with an easy to use and convenient device.
