The opioid crisis is among one of the most serious issues that the US faces. Over 130 people die everyday from opioid overdose. In order to help combat the crisis and provide further safety to patients, we have developed a smart pill dispenser that will prevent patients from accidently, or intentionally overdosing on opioids. This device allows pharmacies to monitor opioid prescriptions after it has left the pharmacy, dispense the correct amount of medication, alert the user when it is time to take their medication, and provide emergency options if the device malfunctions. This technical method of combating the opioid crisis will help reduce the number of victims due to opioid overdose and abuse.
