As technology advances, so does the ability to procrastinate. With access to multiple applications and the internet in the palm of our hands, many individuals have developed a shorter attention span. Principle Inc. is creating a product to help individuals regain control of their attention span called Sonic Box. Sonic Box is a desktop device designed to be placed anywhere in the work area with the field of view of the user. It is equipped with a processor chip, camera system, and audio output, all encased in a 3D printed box. The product is designed to focus on the individual’s face and range of motion, when the facial features are no longer visible, the camera sends a signal to the speaker, alerting the person with a sound. The user has a 120 degree field of view, if the facial features go beyond that the camera system will infer that the user is not paying attention. Also if there is anything blocking the camera system then it will infer the same thing. The audio design mostly values the user’s need to hear the alert sound, so the design will allow sound to be heard from a short distance rather than through an earpiece. The design is intended to be lightweight as to be portable, easy to interact with, and help with concentration as much as possible. Our device assembled and camera system working to keep track of the users movement through facial features awareness. The device also partners with a sound system to alert the user whenever they go out of view of the camera system. All of this is nicely packaged in an exterior box cover.
