Air conditioning systems consume a large amount of electricity and are a significant strain on our energy grid. In the United States, air conditioning can account for up to one third of energy usage during the summer. With this in mind, our team has developed an automated system of window fans that will work alongside an existing air conditioning system in order to save energy and keep the house cool. It monitors the outside environment and brings in cool air when the temperature and humidity levels are appropriate. When in operation, this system suspends the home’s central air conditioning to reduce energy consumption. Our system uses RF communication to provide a near wireless install. After hard wiring the thermostat module, the user simply plugs in our outdoor monitoring system and attaches our smart outlet to each window fan.
