The existing Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) located on Interstate 88 (I-88) and Illinois Route 59 (IL Rte. 59) in Naperville, Illinois, is in consideration for a future redesign. Our objective is to convert the existing DDI into a free-flowing, grade-separated structure to reduce congestion that is directly due to commercial and residential population growth, traffic queuing, and road safety and comfortability. This project also aims to outline exactly how and why the interchange will change, detail the obstacles faced during the process, evaluate the cost, and identify the advantages and disadvantages of the project. We believe that an unsignalized, free-flow interchange between IL Rte. 59 and I-88 would be the best option to improve safety and ensure the capability of handling future traffic volume increases.
