Project Description Heading link

The proposed O’Hare Western Terminal Roadway project is located along the western side of O’Hare International Airport in Chicago. The project is intended to address the need for an additional access point to the airport to help improve the airport’s travel efficiency and to reduce congestion along the eastern portion of the airport. The O’Hare Western Terminal Roadway project is part of a larger Western Expansion project proposed for O’Hare airport. Our group is responsible for the design of the proposed circular roadway, terminal, and associated drainage. The project site consists of about 83.2 acres of undeveloped land. For design purposes, the elevation of the site was assumed to be 660 feet. Our group will put together a site plan for the various project components, providing the required constraints and geometric considerations needed for the design of the proposed terminal roadway. Along with the design of the terminal roadway, the project also encompasses the design of an associated drainage system along the western side of the project site. All components of the project will utilize MicroStation for the design of the proposed roadway and relevant facilities. Design standards and specifications will be acquired from agencies such as the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). Due to the large nature of this project, there are various authorities involved such as the Illinois Tollway and the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA). Design considerations will be based on the requirements of presiding authorities and proper documentation so that the work that is obtained can legitimize the work being proposed. The project will be designed to emulate the existing access to O’Hare, along the eastern side of the airport. Google maps will be utilized for sample geometry of the existing access.
