The Village of New Lenox, Illinois, needs a roadway to be updated due to the many traffic problems it has caused and continues to cause. Located at the intersection of Francis Road and Silver Cross Boulevard, it is near a hospital; Silver Cross Hospital, that has just been recently built. The team was given the task of finding a new way to avoid such traffic issues while allowing the people of the village to travel freely and more safely. Things that were considered for this project include the installation of a new hospital in a nearby location where this new road would branch off of, multiple different options of the route to determine which option will be the most cost-effective and time efficient, and the workability of the surrounding area of the project scope. With these factors in consideration, the team, along with the help of Chicagoland’s popular engineering firm, Christopher B. Burke Engineering is taking on the task of betting this small stretch of road. While teaming up with this top engineering company, as a team, the aspects of the project are being divided up and each person has specific responsibilities to make this project successful. Some of the tasks that are included in this are cost reports, scheduling, and drafting. These things are incredibly important to the success of this project, being able to divide up the work so multiple tasks can be completed at once is important to having this project be smooth and efficient. The team will use AutoCAD and Civil 3D to design the new roadway. By doing so, a more urban design will be implemented and will accommodate the existing rural roadway that is there.
