Our project will allow a user to send a numeric message to another user and notify them when they are in close wireless range. One user, using a sending device, will have the ability to compose a numeric message on an LCD screen using the IR remote controller and choose when to send it to another user. The other user’s device will buzz when it receives a message and display it on its screen. The receiving user can then press a button to notify the sending user that they have read the message. This will light up an LED on the sender’s device, and temporarily show a message that the message was read. In order to send a new message, the sender must press a button to reset the message, which will cause a different LED to light up on the receiving device to show that the sending user is “typing”. If the sending user types at least 3 characters in a rolling window of 2 seconds, that will also send a message to the receiver and cause another LED to light up for as long as that is true, like the “…” feature on chat apps. This LED will turn off whenever the number of characters typed falls below that threshold.
