RFID is a powerful technology that allows us to retrieve data wirelessly to uniquely identify an object or person given the right input. In our case we will be using this technology to make the simple task of unlocking a door even simpler. We plan to use RFID sensors and tags to identify and grant access to anybody that has a corresponding RFID tag. It will be simpler in the sense that our system will be handsfree and it will have a wireless system to check if the correct user can be granted access. Our project is the RFID Arduino Lock which as the name suggests, is meant to unlock a door lock using RFID technology. The goal is to provide a user with an RFID tag that will be used to grant access onto the locking mechanism. The main input for the system will be the RFID tag and sensor that will be used to process the information of the RFID tag. It will have visual cues through an LCD screen which will provide you with an acceptance or decline message. A lot of the processing will be done with the aid of a computer or mobile device that will read and write information onto a mastermind Arduino that will be connected to the other subsystems in order to receive and send information with the computer and system as a whole. Throughout this project we will be able to learn a lot about sending and receiving information with a computer to do a simple but useful action such as unlocking a door. The system will be used to allow access to a limited number of people. With this mechanism we will be able to make the task of unlocking the door easier than ever before through the use of wireless and hands free technology.
