Project Description Heading link
The purpose of this project is to investigate an innovative and sustainable solution for a nozzle that is used for excavation. The current excavation method that is being used consists of using water as the digging medium which results in significant environmental and resource concerns. This project aims to develop the excavation nozzle further and replace water with air. The team will investigate all the potential solutions to develop the nozzle by using advanced air- based technologies such as pulse jets, compressed air, and combinations of water and air. Some of the key factors that will be considered while working on this nozzle development project are booster system development, lance development, and the different control systems for booster systems. Some of the initial ideas the team discussed are reducing the diameter of the nozzle and using a fin on the interior portion of the nozzle to direct the flow of pressure exiting the nozzle. The team continues to conduct research on soil in different regions and explore related patents. By pursuing this approach to excavation nozzle development, this project will contribute to a resource-efficient approach to excavation processes which will address the concerns associated with the traditional water-based excavation methods
