Project Description Heading link

The Hyperloop concept was proposed by Elon Musk in 2013 as the fifth mode of transportation aiming to drastically reduce traveling duration for a medium length distance and cost of operation, infrastructure and maintenance. To support the concept development, the UIC Hyperloop team was founded to participate in the 2020 Hyperloop Competition. As a senior design project, our team is participating in the competition by working on analysing, improving and developing a linear induction motor (LIM) that is used for propulsion and suspension in a magnetically levitated pod that can travel in a 10km vacuum tube.  This report introduces research and studies done on the LIM to achieve specific requirements, optimize performance and overcome all the introduced problems. Three different configurations of the LIM have been presented as 3D/CAD models and compared with each other using simulation programs to determine which is the best design. The final decision was to combine all the configurations in one design to achieve the optimum performance. Our ultimate goal from this project is to help the UIC Hyperloop team selecting the right design specifications and mechanical configurations of the LIM that is going to be assembled on the competition pod prototype and achieve the highest performance.
