Project Description Heading link

The purpose of this project is to design and build a robust and modular robotic platform for the UIC student chapter of the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), which will compete in the Midwest Robotics Design Competition (MRDC). This platform will be a three-wheel system consisting of dual differential drive wheels and a free moving omni-wheel at the rear allowing for enhanced mobility. The platform will have a top cover designed to accept several different mechanisms with minor modifications. Considerations, influenced by competition rules and requirements from IEEE, were taken into the design and overall shape and function of the robot, especially in the conceptualization of the three mechanisms which will be used. Each mechanism is designed to manipulate a specific type of plastic ball (roughly 6 cm in diameter and 5 grams) with speed, simplicity, cost, and ease of fabrication as the main drivers of the design.
