Health Monitoring Bracelet (H.M.B.)
Project Description Heading link
Parents leave their children unattended while they sleep for hours at a time. During their sleep period, health complications can arise, and our product will help parents become aware of them. Our device, the Health Monitoring Bracelet (H.M.B) will measure the heart rate, oxygen levels, and temperature of the child and their surroundings. The design my team and I agreed to go with was the bracelet because of how easily the heart rate can be measured without breaking any regulations. The objective of this project is to create a bracelet that will be used to monitor a child’s vitals and warn the parent if the child is in any danger. There will be three different parameters being measured as said before (heart rate, oxygen levels, and temperature). If any of the three measurements do not fall within a certain range, then it will automatically send an SMS text message to the parent via Bluetooth to check on their child. For testing purposes, our code was slightly modified to read the heart rate of an average adult because we did not have, nor did we think it would be ethical to test, a child; therefore, we tested it on ourselves. We will have different codes for both adults and children. We intended for our prototype to be small enough for a child to wear and not be too bulky for the child’s wrist, but due to technical issues we resorted to a larger prototype. The prototype presented at the EXPO will be able to measure the average adult’s heart rate, oxygen levels, and temperature. With the H.M.B. we hope to be an aid for the parent when it comes to taking care of their child.
