City commuters know the hassle of finding the fastest and most cost-effective way to get from point A to point B, whether that’s getting to work or school. For the most part, people in the city tend to use public transportation which is time-constrained. It may also be difficult to find a seat during rush hour. Walking would be the most cost-effective approach but also the most time-consuming way to commute. Our team is developing (or developed) a device that serves as a good option and solution for these issues. Hawking Wheels is a solution designed for these issues. can have the luxury of an electric scooter or board without having to give up the cost-effective aspect of commuting. Hawking Wheels is a DIY kit that allows installation onto any board. An optional detachable handle is available for those who don’t know how to use a skateboard. The user’s speed is controlled via a remote controller with the data being interpreted using the VESC (Vedder Electronic Speed Control) open platform based on the ARM Cortex M4 microcontroller. The data is then fed to the brushless motor, changing the user’s speed. In order to protect the microcontroller and battery from external damage, a custom 3D-printed enclosure is made. This enclosure module then connects with the motor module enclosure. The battery capacity is 8500mAh. The motor RPM is based on its 190Kv rating.
