Our sponsor is the Craniofacial Center at UI Health and requires a chair that can stabilize any patient needing pre/post-operation pictures for craniofacial reconstruction surgery. The chair must be able to rotate, recline and extend, while holding patients of every age and size. A possible design has a curved back able to move vertically depending on the patient’s height, and would stabilize the patient’s shoulders. A second design considered was a chair with a back in the shape of an egg with armrests. A third design considered encompassed the idea of a seat that “hugs” the patient, and no armrest but instead two panels that hold the patient inside the chair. The design selected included all three of the above ideas. A bill of materials has been created with the materials needed and labor cost. The team will contact companies that have large 3D printing capabilities to fabricate a model of the chair design.
