Cycling is an excellent way of commuting to work, but many are dissuaded by the dangerous nature of being a small cyclist among larger cars. One of the major causes of cyclists getting into accidents is their inability to see vehicles behind them. Our product aims to enhance communication between the cyclist and the motorist hoping to improve the safety of the cyclist. There are products on the market that solve what we aim to solve, but they tend to be expensive and they do not have all the amenities that we plan to implement. This product will be a kit which the cyclist can attach to their bicycle. It will have a blindspot detection system to alert the cyclist of motorists coming up close to them, an automatic brake light to alert motorist that the cyclist is decelerating and turn signals to alert the motorist of the cyclist’s intentions. The blindspot detection uses sonar and when the surface is a hard flat surface it works 95% of the time. When a surface is curved or soft which can absorb the energy from the sound waves, the test results show it was quite unreliable. The device targets daily commuters and avid cyclists that need additional safety measures.
