Project Description Heading link

Methane gas is one of many dangerous greenhouse gases that accelerates climate change, much of which comes from natural gas leakage. While there are existing methods and devices available to control methane gas leakage, a majority of those resources are expensive and measure overall greenhouse gas leakage rather than a specific type. Hence, this project aims at designing a low-cost computer vision system to exclusively detect for methane gas leaks. This includes an infrared camera using a thermopile sensor array that has the ability to detect leaks within a 7-10 micro range, a raspberry pi 4, and a neural network/computer vision algorithm. The neural network is intended to be able to distinguish what is methane and what is not, and the IR camera has the ability to read and display temperature and a thermal image.
