Sierra Smart Bottle is a water bottle that will track your daily water intake and allow you to set daily goals for yourself. When showcasing the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering to prospective students during recruitment events, the department plans to showcase the breadth of ECE concepts through “hands on” projects. We developed the Sierra smart water bottle to showcase various ECE concepts to prospective students. The smart water bottle can track exactly how much water a person drank throughout the day using interchangeable sensors. These daily water intake goals are fully customizable to meet the user’s needs. Students interacting with the water bottle will be able to alternate between the readings from the interchangeable sensors with the push of a button. The bottle is see-through allowing students to see the hardware and everything happening behind the scenes while also being assemblable so that the students can interact with it in a more hands on and fun manner. Observed results show both the LiDAR and UltraSonic Sensor being able to accurately read and display water levels. The bottle also features a notification system and LEDs that will enhance a student’s interaction with the hardware. We hope that this portable, low-cost, and easy to maintain bottle along with its features will demonstrate different ECE concepts and skills that will motivate prospective students to consider careers in ECE.
