Wolf Road Bridge over I-80 (IDOT bridge SN 099-0192) was originally constructed in 1965 to connect Orland Park and Mokena as they were separated by I-80 in the late 50s and early 60s. Nearly six decades have passed since the original construction of the bridge and the communities have grown significantly. Demand for pedestrian access between the communities has increased, justifying the construction of a multi use path connecting the communities. The existing piers of the bridge are in good condition, however, the bridge deck is unable to support the increase in demand and warrants replacement and widening. In addition to the design of the geometric and structural properties of the bridge, the development of a series of organizational systems including traffic management plans, a comprehensive catalog of material line items, their associated costs, as well as the projects necessary contracts and specifications are completed. Traffic management plans were developed through an analysis of both local traffic demands and the serviceability of surrounding roadways to allow for the organization of efficient detours. Dynamic lane closures on I-80 that work to improve safety and minimize delay through the construction process. Material line items and a created work breakdown structure provide a clear timeline throughout the project, providing an organized project budget while also highlighting critical scheduling processes. The following paper describes in-depth, the developed designs and plans for this IDOT project.
