The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has led to a significant increase in the number of cyber security concerns as people have shifted their patterns of living, learning, and working online. Phishing attempts have become a major concern for individuals and organizations alike. Phishing is a fraudulent technique used by cybercriminals to acquire sensitive information such as login passwords or account details by posing as reputable individuals or companies through emails, SMS, or other communication channels. Phishing attacks have become more sophisticated over time, with cybercriminals using social engineering tactics to trick individuals into providing their personal information. They often create fake websites that resemble legitimate sites and use social media to distribute links to these sites. As a result, individuals are tricked into providing their login credentials or other sensitive information, which cybercriminals then use for malicious purposes such as identity theft, financial fraud, or ransomware attacks. The impact of phishing attacks can be significant, not only for individuals who may suffer financial loss or reputational damage but also for organizations that can suffer data breaches or other cyber security incidents. Therefore, it is essential to be aware of the risks and take appropriate measures to protect personal and organizational information. This can be achieved through a combination of technical measures such as firewalls and antivirus software, as well as employee training and awareness programs to help individuals identify and avoid phishing attempts. By staying vigilant and taking proactive measures, individuals and organizations can protect themselves from the growing threat of phishing attacks.
