The overall purpose of this system is to automatically dispense rice as portion controlling. Instead of having to risk cooking too much or too little rice for a meal, the system can drop appropriate amounts of rice for a number of people. The quantity of rice dispensed will take into account an average person’s healthy intake of rice. This can be especially useful to those who are at health risks due to poor diet. Additionally, America produces 119 billion pounds of food waste a year. To relieve this overwhelming amount, the system can be a preventative measure of cooking excessive servings of rice. For added convenience, the consumer no longer has the hassle of having to cook more than necessary. To simplify the system: two Arduinos will be in contact with each other where one system will consist of one Arduino that will receive the user’s desired rice amount and send it to another Arduino that will power a servo motor which will drop rice based on the user’s desired amount. The user will be interacting with the first Arduino in which they can choose an amount of rice, confirm or cancel amounts of rice they requested initially, and control a safety lock.
